Cymbeline

William Shakespeare

Directed by Sam Murphy

Join The Boise Bard Players for Cymbeline: Imogen’s Fairy Tale!

Cymbeline (SIM-bel-een) is Shakespeare’s fairy tale about a secret marriage, lost heirs, and a fight for the throne. You won’t want to miss this epic tale of forbidden love. Join us August 22 through September 1 for this unique and thrilling production!

Plot Summary

When King Cymbeline’s daughter, Imogen, marries Posthumus against her father’s wishes, she ignites a chain of events that will test her loyalty and courage. Banished from the kingdom, Posthumus falls prey to the scheming Iachimo, who bets he can seduce Imogen and prove her unfaithful. Meanwhile, the evil Queen plots to secure the throne for her son, Cloten, who has his own plans for Imogen.

As Britain stands on the brink of war with Rome, hidden identities are revealed, and long-lost princes return. Battles rage, destinies collide, and forgiveness triumphs over vengeance. With its mix of romance, comedy and tragedy, Cymbeline is a timeless adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final scene.

Minimalist Shakespeare that is compelling, relevant, engaging AND entertaining.

This group is absolute genius! Bringing Shakespeare to a street level performance! Locals performing the heights of the English language while using minimal pomp to evoke the emotions that drive us. Don’t miss the chance to see something incredibly amazing!

BRAVO to The Boise Bard Players! Sooooo much talent! They bring a fresh energy to their productions. Plus their unconventional locations let you be up close and personal.

Leta Harris Neustaedter

What a great small theatre company giving the Treasure Valley a most excellent opportunity to see Shakespeare up close and at a very reasonable price! The actors are top notch and make the show fun!

Anonymous

My family of four has enjoyed experiencing local, affordable, high-quality Shakespeare at outdoor, neighborhood venues that are welcoming to all ages. What a treat!

Katie Painter

It was a new experience for me to be encouraged to take photos during a play, but The Boise Bard Players do quite a few things differently. Their spare productions in unusual locations are a throwback to how plays were often performed in Shakespeare’s time.

Dana Moon Long

BBP performs in the simplest of terms to create layers of richly dramatic conflict. Thank you BBP for challenging our preconceived notions of theater and creating another strong artistic voice in Boise.

Kyle Daniel Barrow

The Boise Bard Players have delivered each time I’ve attended one of their shows! From beginning to end, it is clear that they put their heart and soul into each production.

Anonymous

They provide a more intimate setting, with all of the depth and feeling the plays deserve. I will continue attending as long as they continue performing!

Anonymous

I love that BBP is mobile and performs in unique environments like the Old Pen, the Bishops’ House, and clients living in assisted living facilities, and I love supporting their mission to make Shakespeare accessible and affordable for our community.

Rick Capezza, Sponsor

Your performance was remarkable. It’s going to haunt me for a long time! You guys did an amazing job. Very much enjoyed the entire experience.

Your cast was fantastic, and the original take was refreshing and so fun! Making Shakespeare accessible is difficult and you all succeeded. Loved it!
