OUR IMPACT

Ten Years Ago…

Artistic Director Chris Canfield visited Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in London to see Macbeth. Standing as a “groundling” at the base of the stage, he was moved by the Globe’s mission to make Shakespeare accessible to all.

In Shakespeare’s day, the “groundlings” were the people who could not afford a seat in the rounded theater, but could pay one penny to stand for the show. The Globe that stands today keeps the spirit of this accessibility alive by keeping Groundling tickets affordable.

After this experience, Chris was inspired to bring Shakespeare to the Treasure Valley in a new way, making the Bard’s work accessible to the everyman by bringing it to unconventional locations like historical sites, breweries, and backyards.

Since that vision took hold in 2014, the venture that would later become The Boise Bard Players has grown to an institution in our local community.

Every production we do serves both the theatre aficionados and the ones who have never understood Shakespeare before. As we like to say, our artists embody the text so well, you don’t have to understand every word to understand the play.

With messages that stand the test of time, it’s our commitment to give everyone a chance to enjoy the theater, eliminating emotional and economic barriers.

When you give to The Boise Bard Players, you help us achieve all this while allowing us to dream even bigger.

Your Impact

When you give to us, you help the entire community of Boise thrive. With a robust art scene comes greater prosperity all around.

Statistics show that the performing arts industry offers numerous benefits to the economy, and we have an opportunity to both improve livability and boost state and local economies with your investment in the arts.

Your money goes toward helping us pay our artists and staff a living wage. We believe in #NoMoreStarvingArtists.

When you give to The Boise Bard Players, you’re not just funding another theatre company. You’re part of a movement to get artists paid handsomely for performing the storytelling that is essential to the human experience.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT US

Minimalist Shakespeare that is compelling, relevant, engaging AND entertaining.

Elizabeth Greeley, PATREON MEMBER

The Boise Bard Players do quite a few things differently. Their spare productions in unusual locations are a throwback to how plays were often performed in Shakespeare’s time.

Josh Johnston, SPONSOR

I love that BBP is mobile and performs in unique environments like the Old Pen, the Bishops’ House, and assisted living facilities, and I love supporting their mission to make Shakespeare accessible and affordable for our community.
