The Collaboration of the Year!

The Medea Project is a collaborative theater production between BBP and The Luminary. Under the direction of Amanda Baschnagel, the cast and crew is devising a modern translation of Euripides’ classic myth. The original play was written in 431 BC in Ancient Greece.

The Story of Medea

Hell hath no fury like a woman betrayed. When the ambitious Jason abandons his wife Medea (meh-DAY-uh) for a younger royal bride, he triggers a lethal dose of revenge. Cast out and pushed to the edge, Medea unleashes a plot of poisoned gifts and the ultimate sacrifice to ensure his demise. Brace yourself for classical mythology’s most shocking thriller of raw vengeance, reimagined for a modern audience!

What does it mean to “devise” a new version of Medea?

In the performing arts, devising a play is a highly collaborative method of making theatre where the script or performance is generated organically by the entire ensemble, rather than staging a pre-existing script.

Instead of a traditional model where a single playwright writes a script and a director instructs actors on how to perform it, this devised production of Medea is built from the ground up.
